Our Legacy Is Also The Next Generation

Their tiny hands.  Their aura of innocence.  Their wide eyes in how they look out at the world.
Yes I am talking toddlers and young children.  And how as adults, we can pass a part of ourselves to this group who is curious, trusting and testing us all the time.  As parents or aunts/uncles, we can create the space for their imaginations to soar, their self esteem to be built and for their skills to be developed for future happiness and prosperity.  So here are three areas to contribute to:
  1. Set aside time each week to encourage playful creativity whether it is through story writing, art or music in their learning how to express themselves.  Memories can be stored in our DNA that decades later, we still remember how another showed up how to paint pottery at age 5 or paint with water colors at age 6.
  2. Create a small or medium sized garden with them.  The space could be a balcony, a backyard or a dedicated space indoors. Gardening can teach them caring, responsibility and nurturing actions to watch firsthand cause and effect.  They will see the fruit of their labor and the connection back to nature.  Plus, it will teach them that food comes from the earth or dirt compared to retailers in the market.
  3.  Manners…my father holds as high priority the importance of manners in young children in their knowing how to sit, be patient at times and interact politely.  While young children are not always called to be prope their ability to know when and how will open doors and foster good friendships.

I undoubtedly need to get better at fostering creativity! I feel like we get caught up in all the daily chaos and miss out on moments that could be exceptional! Thank you for the reminder!
